Seeds Type

Uncertain, that is to say seeds that could be orthodox, intermediate or recalcitrant. This information is still unknown for the moment. However, according to our experience, these seeds do not store well and we recommend to use them within a year. There is therefore a good chance that the seeds of this species will be recalcitrant or intermediate, even if about 97% of pine species have orthodox seeds.

For germination, you must...

1. allow 24 HOURS for seed treatment;
2. subject them to a scarification before sowing (follow the steps below in order).

Scarification : Soak the seeds (pinyons) in water at room temperature for 24 hours.
Stratification : No stratification needed.
Seedlings : Lightly dry the seeds (pinyons) so they no longer stick together. It will then be easier to handle them. Sow the seeds (pinyons) one by one and bury lightly, less than five millimeters from the soil surface. Be patient... not with germination, but with the speed of growth of the seedlings which is extremely slow.
Comments : It is reported that cool soil (below 22° C) could be beneficial for germination.
