This tree grows quickly and can reach very high dimensions.
It was once planted as a street tree since it tolerates pollution and urban conditions in general.
Because of its strong and agressive roots, the Silver Maple is not so much planted in the cities anymore. But this tree still has undeniable qualities that make it a key tree in several specific locations. Naturally, it's more appropriate to plant where space is not a problem. Above all, it's important to plant this tree away from home and all underground infrastructure. The rivers edge is its preferred habitat and its powerful roots contribute to make this tree a first choice in erosion control and soil stabilization.
Its autumnal colors, its peeling bark in several strips, as well as its overall shape make it a very interesting ornemental tree. In addition, it's one of the first Quebec native trees to adorn itself with flowers in spring. The fruits which are samaras are also produced during the same season.
