It's often found in pure stands, with Basswood, Beech and Hemlock. It provides the canopy that require countless undergrowth plants such as Wild Garlic and American Ginseng for example.
As its wood quality, its value on the timber market is very high. Maple products such as maple syrup, maple sugar, maple butter and many others are the most popular and exported NTFP (Non Timber Forest Products) from Quebec and surely Canada.
